eSIM not working - Quick Checklist
Before you try any of our other steps:
- Confirm your phone supports eSIM
- Make sure your phone is unlocked
- Update your phone software (latest iOS/Android)
- Use strong Wi-Fi when installing the eSIM
- Turn Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds, then OFF
- Restart your phone
QR code won’t scan
- Increase screen brightness (on the device showing the QR)
- Make the QR bigger (zoom in)
- Avoid glare / reflections
- Hold the camera steady and let it focus
If scanning fails, use manual installation via the link provided in your email, or via your FlexySim account
The QR code, or link is no longer valid / eSIM already added
This usually means the eSIM has already been installed to your device.
To check if you eSIM has already installed:
iPhone
Settings → Mobile/Cellular
Look under SIMs / Cellular Plans.
Android
Settings → SIM Manager / SIMs
Look for an eSIM plan in the list.
Most FlexySim eSIMs are single use, if you have installed, and deleted an eSIM by mistake, please contact our support team for assistance.
eSIM Installed, but No Internet
You have signal bars, but nothing loads
This is usually solved by turning on roaming and ensuring you have selected your FlexySim eSIM as the data line.
Step 1 — Turn ON Data Roaming (Required for most travel eSIMs)
iPhone:
Settings → Mobile/Cellular → FlexySim → Data Roaming → ON
Android:
Settings → Connections/Network & Internet → Mobile Network → Data Roaming → ON
Step 2 — Set FlexySim as your Mobile Data line
iPhone:
Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Cellular Data → FlexySim
Android:
SIM Manager → Mobile Data → FlexySim
Step 3 — Toggle Airplane Mode
Turn Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds → then OFF.
Step 4 — Restart your phone
A restart forces the device to reconnect properly, and often fixes most connection issues.
No Signal / “SOS Only” / “No Service”
If you see No Service, SOS, or no network signal:
Step 1 — Confirm you’re in the correct destination
Make sure the FlexySim plan you purchased matches your current country/region. Your eSIM will only work in the region selected for your eSIM
Step 2 — Manually select a network
Sometimes the phone connects to the wrong network automatically. If this occurs, manually select a network for connection
iPhone:
Settings → Mobile/Cellular → FlexySim → Network Selection → turn OFF Automatic → try available networks
Android:
Settings → Mobile Network → Network Operators → turn OFF Auto → select an available network
Step 3 — Airplane Mode + Restart
Sometimes all it takes is a simple restart to find the right network.
- Toggle Airplane Mode (10 seconds)
- Restart your phone
Apple iMessage Issues
FlexySim eSIMs are data-only, so the Apple iMessage service should still work without any issues— but switching data lines can sometimes cause confusion.
If you have trouble using iMessage, try these steps
- Settings → Messages → Send & Receive
- Ensure your Apple ID/phone number is selected correctly
- Keep your primary SIM active for iMessage identity (if needed), however only set your FlexySim eSIM for data to ensure you avoid data roaming charges with your usual SIM
eSIM setup tips
After you have purchased your eSIM you will have received an email with your eSIM details, including a QR Code and installation instructions. Simply scan the QR Code to start installing your eSIM or tap the link provided in the email.
Once your eSIM starts installing let your phone do the work. Once your eSIM is installed name your eSIM 'FlexySim' so that you know which sim is your eSIM, and which is your usual sim.
FYI don't activate your eSIM until you arrive at your destination.
Once your eSIM is installed, and you arrive at your destination it is time to toggle data roaming off on your primary sim, and on for your eSIM. You will now be able to enjoy your travels with reliable & fast data with no data roaming costs.
Most phones are ready to accept an eSIM however some mobile phones may still be locked to a network. Check to see if your phone is unlocked by dialling *#06#. If an EID number is displayed, then you are ready to go.
If your phone is locked then most networks will quickly unlock your phone for you.
